Just as there are certain methods that work better for everything in life, there are certain exercises that are better for losing more weight than others. Going along with that, there are certain exercise activities that are more suited to specific body types as well as specific areas of the body.

Taking all of these factors in account, here are some specific exercises that speed up weight loss.

Lifting Weights- Lifting weights to improve muscle toning in the arms can also increase your fat burning metabolism. Stretching your arms to your sides, and performing a circular-airplane move rotation tones the upper parts of your arm; it also tones the shoulder area. Remember not to choose a weight that is too strenuous for your body’s build. You want to find one that is not too easy, yet not difficult either.

Walking up and down stairs- Believe it or not, walking up and down stairs is a great way to burn calories! The reason is that walking up makes your body put pressure that helps tone muscles you may not use every day. When walking down a set of stairs, you are using your upper thigh muscles, thus increasing your volume of exercise. Another positive thing about stairs is that they don’t cost you anything and they are everywhere! Unlike a membership to a gym, opting for a flight of stairs will not cost you anything. Stairs are found at work, the mall, even your own home. They are a convenient way to help you shape up!

Housework- Cleaning your house is another way to burn calories. You can be doing double duty by cleaning the bathtub, doing laundry or any other household chore. One of the most effective ways to burn calories is by vacuuming. The labor involved in vacuuming can really take your workout an extra notch!

Running and Cycling- Running and bike riding are by far two of the leading forms of exercise. Not only do they increase your metabolism, but they also tone your body. Another healthy aspect of these two activities is that they get your heart and blood pumping! There are many ways to do both of these activities as well. If you are not one for running the conventional way, choose to run in place or on a treadmill. Another way to make running more enjoyable is to invite a friend along; you could take your dog with you. This would be a great way to exercise and be safe. If you prefer not to run in public, you can always run in place in your home.
